Emedicine migration and transformation - Webmd
eMedicine is a part of the WebMD Health Professional Network. The eMedicine Clinical Knowledge Base contains articles on nearly 7,000 diseases and disorders and is richly illustrated with some 30,000 multimedia files.
The challenge
Migrate content from the existing emedicine domain to the medscape platform. The current content was partly in the emedicine content management system produced xml and partly in html created directly on the site. Our challenge was to migrate both these formats into the medscape taxonomy. The new xml could be easily then imported into the medscape content management system. The other part of the project was to transform these xml to create new html pages. This overhaul meant a redesigning of the articles so they look and function better. However, the publishing still continued to use their legacy cms system. This project made the entire system seamless and content put in the legacy system came out with the new designs and structure and shows up on the new site integrated with medscape.
The Solution
The solution that we provided was doing a bulk migration and delivering the final xml and html that was integrated on the site and we also provided the scripts for ongoing publishing.
After conducting an initial needs assessment and laying out an information strategy, Cassiopeiatech went to transforming both the html and the xml into the new XML format, which is not only made it close to the medscape standard taxonomy, but can also be re-purposed for other uses (e.g., Some sections of the articles can now be linked to other disease sections of WebMD). This process is strategically important to WebMD as it seeks additional opportunities to share content as well as standardize the content published through multiple systems.
Some of the key technologies used for the project were MS Linq, MS .NET 3.5, XMLSPY, XMLMapforce, java, xslt 2.0 etc. If you need to know more details please contact us.
